El Chavo del Ocho, created by Roberto Gómez Bolaños ("Chespirito"), is the main character of the popular Mexican sitcom El Chavo del Ocho. The series premiered on February 26, 1973.
El Chavo (meaning "the kid") is a poor orphan who lives in a barrel in the courtyard of a Mexican apartment complex. He is known for his naiveté, good heart, and constant misunderstandings, which often lead to comedic situations and arguments with the other residents.
